Describe past or present professional activities relevant to bananas:
Understanding the genetics of resistance to Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum the cause of the devastating Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW) disease, that is ravaging banana production in East Africa. Previously thought to not have resistance in banana, we recently identified a banana variety that is tolerant to this disease, thus opening opportunities to breed for resistance and using host resistance to manage the disease.
